Weekly Spelling
The students will have weekly spelling words based on their phonics level. They are expected to complete four different spelling assignments from a menu each week, in order to prepare them for the test on Friday. Students will have a choice from the tasks explained on the "Royal Spelling" sheet. To best support the students learning, they should finish one assigment Monday thru Thursday night. Spelling work will be graded every Friday for accuracy and effort, prior to the test. Homework grades will be averaged with test scores.
Nightly Reading
READERS turn into LEADERS...with that in mind, it is vital that your child practice reading nightly to increase comprehension and fluency. Students will be expected to read for at least 20 minutes aloud to an adult. To ensure that students are fulfilling this task, parents are asked to write the name of the book and their signature in the student's agenda nightly. This will be the most effective way to improve reading skills. Another great resource is to allow your child to become an active member of Raz-Kids when they are at home. This is a website that reads stories aloud and then assesses their comprehension with a quiz after. It has proven to be an outstanding learning tool!
